Lisa Hoffman, M.A. is a Wellness Participation Specialist.
She started Solo Fitness & Wellness in 1990 to make health an accessible goal in many people's lives. She is an exercise physiologist, cancer exercise specialist and President of Solo Fitness & Wellness. Lisa came to New York in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in Modern Dance from SUNY at Brockport and was a professional dancer for over 6 years.
Her interest in movement led her to teach exercise classes at various fitness centers, corporations, universities and spas in Manhattan. She earned her Masters Degree at Columbia University in 1995 in Exercise Physiology, and is certified as a Cancer Exercise Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society. She is certified as a Fitness Specialist from the American Council on Exercise and as a Mat-Pilates instructor from the PhysicalMind Institute.
Lisa is the author of Better Than Ever: The 4-Week Workout Program for Women Over 40,(Contemporary Books, 1997) which is the first book to focus on menopause and the benefits of exercise. She is also the choreographer of Hadassah's exercise video, Live and Be Well and The National Osteoporosis Foundation's official exercise video; Be BoneWise Exercise. Lisa has co-chaired events for Women's O.W.N.(Optimum Wellness Now) - NYU School of Medicine and was a leader in their program development. Lisa was also a Charter member of Healthy Community Development (HCD) an organization of highly specialized Consultants with the expertise to increase wellness participation for any community. Lisa is a proud Founding Member of the Survivors' Compass; a consultancy of three professional women dedicated to cancer navigation & wellness programs.
She is also on the Board of Directors of the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation and sits on the National Health Advisory Board of Hadassah and The New York Menopause Center. Lisa was a Consultant for NAVITAS Cancer Rehabilitation Centers of America based in Denver, CO and was a key contact for the National Osteoporosis Foundation and a continuing education provider on menopause and osteoporosis for the American Council on Exercise. She has been featured in major magazines, medical journals, national TV and radio while continuing to lecture on women’s health issues both locally and nationally.
Lisa's second book, The Healing Power of Movement (Perseus Publishing Group, 2002) focuses on the benefits of physical activity during various cancer treatments.
She also develops In-Services for various hospital and medical practices in New York City.
Lisa is a founding member, Past President and COO of RaisingMOM: a Post Pregnancy Care Center based in New York City.
